A spectacular trek between red rocks and wild sea. Discover the path from Li Cossi to Tinnari: 7km of pure nature just an hour from Sassari.

Li Cossi beach in Costa Paradiso surrounded by red trachyte rocks.

Forget for a moment the postcard Sardinia, the one with white sand and flat seas. There is another Sardinia, more rugged, dramatic, and incredibly fascinating. It is that of Costa Paradiso.

Here, about an hour's drive from Villa Malvasio, geology has created a masterpiece: Red Trachyte. Fire-colored rocks plunging into a sea that, especially in autumn or spring, shows all its power.

If you love walking and are looking for an experience that fills your eyes (and lungs), the Li Cossi - Tinnari trek is the adventure for you.

1. The Beginning: The Li Cossi Amphitheater 🌊

It starts from the Costa Paradiso parking lot. The first part is a scenic 10-minute walk, protected by a railing, which takes you to the beach of Li Cossi. Already here the landscape is alien. The Mistral wind has sculpted the red rocks for millennia, creating shapes that look like human faces, mythological animals, and stone gargoyles. Stop for a moment. Breathe. The scent here is not just salt: it is an intense mix of wild Rosemary and Helichrysum that gets under your skin.

2. The Challenge: Towards Cala Tinnari 🥾

Leaving Li Cossi beach, the game gets tough (and beautiful). The path climbs up the cliff. This is not a walk for flip-flops: you need trekking shoes or sturdy sneakers. You walk for about 6-7 km (round trip) immersed in the Mediterranean scrub, with the sea always on your left.

It is here that you take the perfect photo (like the one you see on the cover): When the sea is rough, the water is not blue, but a deep, dark emerald green. The waves crash on the red granite creating a very white foam that contrasts with the red of the rock. It is a hypnotic spectacle.

3. The Goal: The Solitary Beach 🏖️

After scenic ups and downs, you will arrive at Cala Tinnari. It is a beach formed by pebbles brought by the Riu Pirastu river. Often, especially out of season, you will be the only human being present. The feeling of isolation and connection with nature is total. The sound of the wind and waves covers every other thought.

4. Technical Tips for the Excursion

Difficulty: Medium. The first piece is Tourist, the second requires attention.

Water: There are no bars or fountains after the parking lot. Bring at least 1.5 liters each.

Wind: This area is exposed to the Mistral. If it blows hard, the landscape is spectacular (giant waves!) but dress well with a windbreaker.

Your base for exploration

This trek requires energy and will leave you tired but happy. The position of Villa Malvasio is strategic even for these medium-range outings:

  1. Have a protein breakfast with us in Sassari.
  2. Drive for an hour enjoying the landscape of Anglona.
  3. Do the trek.
  4. Return in time for a hot shower and a relaxing dinner in the center of Sassari, far from the emptiness of coastal tourist resorts which are deserted out of season.
