Summer is about to arrive.
And after two years of pandemic, war has also arrived right at Europe's doorstep... and so everything gets even more complicated.
But we certainly can't give up our vacation, because we have between 7 and 15 days a year, usually in August, and for this reason we can't give up a, even if short, beach holiday.
Now, if the pandemic hasn't stopped you and the war doesn't worry you either, I'll reveal some "tricks" to save some money.
GETTING TO SARDINIA
If you travel by car or motorcycle, it's important not to book at the last minute and to take advantage of the various offers and rates that, during this period, January - May, the different ferry companies offer. In any case, routes with docking or departure from the port of Olbia give you the chance to save some money.
If you can use the plane, it would be wise to check for any offers from low-cost airlines during this period. RayanAir operates in Alghero and Cagliari, but there are also other airlines that usually put tickets on sale with significant discounts. In this case, you need to rent a car and prices increase depending on the season, keeping in mind that in August they will definitely be more expensive. Renting an electric vehicle would allow you to save up to 40-50% compared to the cost of a petrol one, but you are required to find and select accommodation with a charging station. In Sardinia, you can also find fast charging stations that recharge the vehicle (for example, a Renault ZOE) in 1 hour at a cost of €0.50 per kWWHERE TO BOOK TO SAVE MONEY
First of all, you need to consider your available budget and then the period when you book. High season means much higher prices (the best period for both climate and prices is certainly late June - 2nd decade of July); then you need to make sure that your vacation wishes, such as a villa with a pool by the sea and a hot tub, fit within this budget. A wrong and careless choice will drive up costs and discourage you.
Let's be clear: apartments, villas, and hotels by the sea are definitely dream destinations but in many cases out of reach for most of us. Also, for bookings made through various platforms like Booking, Airbnb, Expedia, etc., the commission costs are usually passed on to the final customer. Imagine that an apartment sold at €100/night can be found on Booking at €130/night. Our advice is to find the accommodation on the platform you are most familiar with, check its rating (which should be at least above 9 on Booking), and if you are satisfied with the price, it's better to do a search on Google or even Google Maps to find the owner's mobile number and call them directly (usually the accommodations are also listed on Google Maps and you can find the mobile number there).
It's also important to find a good compromise between a house by the sea and one inland. Maybe by moving a few kilometers from the coast you can save even 30-40%.
Villa Malvasio B&b bed and breakfast in Sassari offers a range of services such as indoor parking with electric vehicle charging and is the right compromise to save money, not being directly on the sea but having it just 10 minutes away by car. Furthermore, Villa Malvasio is located a short distance from the most popular destinations in northern Sardinia, which are Alghero, Stintino la Pelosa, Castelsardo, the island of Asinara, and the Neptune Caves.
